Arsenal were able to move level on points with Chelsea, who play later today, in the race for Champions League qualification following their 2-1 Premier League win over Cardiff City at the Emirates last night.
Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette helped the Gunners secure their 14th league win of the season and, ultimately, has cranked up the pressure on Chelsea ahead of their trip to Bournemouth.
With the Blues having managed to recapture some form over their last couple of fixtures, though, Arsenal supporters will probably not be expecting much come full time at the Vitality Stadium.
The most important thing for them, however, is that Unai Emery’s side were able to claim all three points against Cardiff in a professional performance following their 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
And it was also a performance that was saw Carl Jenkinson manage to get some game time, who could now be a very viable option in the right-back position for Emery going forward with Hector Bellerin set to miss the rest of the season through injury.
The last time Carl Jenkinson started a Premier League game for Arsenal was back in 2016 when he lined up against Manchester United during a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on November 19.
Since then he has made just seven further appearances for the Gunners, all coming in cup competitions – with five of those coming this season, the most recent being in the 3-0 win at Blackpool earlier this month.
It looked like Jenkinson – a lifelong Arsenal fan – had played his last ever game for his beloved club in the Premier League, with suggestions he could even leave this month before the end of the transfer window.
But the injury to Hector Bellerin has handed him a reprieve, with Emery believed to have now ruled out the possibility of the former Charlton defender being sold.
Have a look at what some Gooners are saying about the 26-year-old below…
