Superhero movie Black Panther has become the favourite to scoop the best film prize at the Oscars after its sensational win at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards in Los Angeles.
There has only been one film in the past 23 years that has won an Oscar without making the shortlist of the SAG award.
In beating Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born and Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody to the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award, Black Panther has jumped up to being a favourite to repeat the success at the Oscars.
The movie is a vibrant celebration of African culture and was a surprise winner of the top award, which is voted for largely by actors.
It will come up against the previous favourite for Oscars victory in Spanish-language drama Roma, which wasn't nominated for a SAG award.
In an evening where there were a few shock wins, Glenn Close beat Lady Gaga and British fave Olivia Colman to the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role award for her role in The Wife.
Bohemian Rhapsody did see some success with Rami Malek receiving best actor for his portrayal of Queen's lead singer, Freddie Mercury.
The Oscars are awarded on February 24 and Mahershala Ali will be hoping to repeat his SAG award win for best supporting actor in a movie, after winning for Green Book.
