Scooper Music: On "Chulo Vibes", Timaya Reminds Everyone That He Is Still Relevant In The Music Game

YFDTv News

Timaya is arguably the most consistent artist in Nigeria and his new EP Chulo Vibes is a testament to that fact.

Since he came into the game in 2005, Timaya has dominated the Nigerian music space in such a way that he is never compared to anyone.

The Bayelsan King Of Commercial is in a league of his own.

On the 8th of February, Timaya released his 7th body of work Chulo Vibes, a 9 track EP that is full of sweet Lounge music.

You know how you go to a Lounge and the music being played is sweet and laidback. It doesn't require too much energy from you like Zanku or Shaku Shaku, you can just nod your head or tap your feet to the beat while you're sipping on some alcohol or juice as the case may be.

That's the vibe that is on Timaya's Chulo Vibes EP.

One of the most interesting things about Timaya's discography is that most of his best songs have no guest features so it comes as no surprise that on Chulo Vibes, there are only 3 featured artists. (Burna Boy, Alikiba, Machel Montano).

On Balance, the EP's opening track which was previously released as the first single, Timaya reminds of how he started his music journey with almost nothing and how things have "balanced" now that he has achieved success in his career.

Timaya is not a rapper but he is known to be braggadocious in his music and on Balance, he doesn't fail to boast about his ostentatious lifestyle. On the hook, he sings "...As I get Nairas for my pocket, I go just dey do anyhow eh". This song is definitely a party starter and it sets the mood for the EP and makes the listener aware of what Timaya's intentions are, which he clearly states on the song"...And I really got plans to make the world dance".

Timaya breezes through the rest of the EP with so much grace that it almost looks effortless but that's just his way. He makes making sweet music seem so easy. He does this on The Mood, Obrigado, Akuna, I Can't Kill Myself andStoopid.

Timaya links up with his brother from Port-Harcourt Burna Boy on Pull Up, a song produced by Kel P.

In case you don't know, Kel P is the mastermind behind Burna's recent hits like On The Low and Gbona. Timaya and Burna compliment each other in such a unique way that will make the listener wonder why these two haven't done a lot of songs together. The last time they were together on a song was on Burna Boy's debut album L.I.F.E. Timaya was featured on Abeg Abeg remix alongside 2Baba.

Considering how big African music is becoming, it wouldn't be a bad idea for these two to do a joint project. It might never happen but it's worth daydreaming about.

Tanzanian star Alikiba joins Timaya on Number one and the result is an impressive collaboration that has the potential of being a chart-topping song.

The last but probably the most important collaboration on Chulo Vibes is the Machel Montano assisted song Happy

Why is this collaboration important?

Timaya has a huge following in the Caribbeans (Runtown too) and Machel is one of the top artists in that region so collaborating with him will definitely give Chulo Vibes a boost in that region in terms of streaming and downloads.

The Trinidadian Soca artist and Timaya have collaborated before and they use their unique synergy to make Happy a smooth, groovy and unapologetic song as they both sing about how amazing they are at their craft and how they are interested in living their lives for anybody.

If you are yet to cop this project, I implore you to do so and soak yourself in the endless waters of Timaya's vibes.
