STILL GOT IT Gazza gets standing ovation after cameo in Spurs legends match at new stadium

PAUL GASCOIGNE got a standing ovation as he played in a Spurs shirt for the first time in 28 years.

The England hero of Italia 90 and Euro 96 may not have the old spring in his step, but he was given a sensational welcome to the new £850million ground.

He lasted 12 minutes though as he tested the noise created by the new south stand against Inter Milan legends.

While he only managed a few touches, it was all about getting the 51-year-old back on a football pitch after his problems with alcohol addiction.

A football pitch is where he belongs and the club have done well to get Gazza involved and remind him how much he is loved in the game.

The last time Gazza played for Spurs was the Cup final in 1991, where he damaged his knee ligaments, missing the following season before joining Lazio.

After coming on for Rafael van der Vaart , Gazza jogged gingerly around the pitch.

His demons with the bottle have clearly taken their toll on his physical state, but nobody was expecting lung-busting runs from the Geordie magician.

He came off after 70 minutes, replaced my Teemu Tainio and soaked up a long love-in from the single-tiered south stand.

Jurgen Klinsmann, Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane also starred in the match.

And the fans were treated to plenty of goals as it finished 5-4 to the visitors in front of 50,000 fans in North London.
