The conversation regarding the best active player in the NBA usually revolves around a handful of players. LeBron James is always one of them as the Lakers' star shows every season what separates him from the rest of the league.
One fellow superstar thought he would have his status lifted and become viewed as the best player in the league after LeBron's 2017 NBA Finals defeat. According to reports, Kevin Durant believed he was going to be viewed as the best player in the league after the Warriors knocked out the Cavaliers.
Sorry, Kevin. That's not what happens when you join a 73-9 team and "lead" them back to the NBA Finals.
Durant's decision to join the Warriors was arguably the most scrutinized free agency move in NBA history, leading to Durant instantly becoming the most disliked player in the league. Despite winning the NBA Finals with the Warriors that year, Durant's popularity remained incredibly low.
The perception among fans around the league is that Durant took the easy way out in order to achieve his success in the league, and pairing up with multiple All-Stars is not an effective way of solidifying oneself as the top player in the league.
Durant's name definitely belongs in the conversation for best player in the league, but he's not going to be considered the top dog. Despite that, he's averaging 27.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.
