Replays show Milner was offside as Liverpool take lead at West Ham

YFDTv Sport News

FANS could not believe Liverpool’s first goal was not flagged for offside as James Milner looked to be two yards off.

Liverpool took the lead on 22 minutes at the London Stadium after a brilliant move from Adam Lallana allowed Milner to cross it in to Sadio Mane.

Mane would go onto turn and get his strike off as Liverpool took the lead.

The fine skill by Lallana to set up Milner’s cross - or Mane’s great turn and finish was not the talking point of the goal.

Fans on Twitter were left questioning how the linesman and referee failed to spot Milner standing two yards offside before he whipped the ball into Mane.

One said: “Offside by a mile right in front of the linesman. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.”

Another said: “Liverpool benefit from another offside goal. Water is wet.”

One added: “How did the linesman miss that lol clear offside.”

Another added: “How can you be a professional referee, and miss a guy standing 5 yards off side, in front of you?”

Milner was clearly offside before assisting Mané. Tough one for the linesman being that far away though, to be fair... 🤷‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/bQ5GmUX6qF — TheFootballRepublic (@TheFootballRep) February 4, 2019

West Ham took just six minutes to equalise as a well worked free-kick routine put Michail Antonio.

Felipe Anderson knocked the ball down the right hand side as Antonio picked up the ball inside the box and arrowed his shot past Alisson into the bottom corner.
